FAQ
What is a motion detector?
Motion detector is an intelligent device which controls the ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ operation of connected electrical loads. When it detects motion inside its detection area, it automatically turns the load ‘ON’. It turns ‘OFF’ the load after preset time delay if no movement is detected for the set time.
What is the detection range for the motion detectors?
Different motion detectors are available with detection range distance ranging from 6 meters to 15 meters. Please refer the products details for more information.
Can the motion detectors’ detection range be adjusted?
Yes. Most of the models have facility to control the detection range distance electronically. Please refer product details for more information.
During day time it is not required to use artificial lighting; hence do the motion detectors have facility to use only during night time?
Yes, all the motion detectors have adjustable lux setting. User can adjust lux setting as per the individual requirement.
What is lux setting?
Lux is a unit of light brightness measurement. Higher lux value means brighter ambient. 2 lux means complete darkness and 2000 lux means full daylight. Adjusting the motion detector for lux value 2 will operate the motion detector only when there is complete darkness.
Is it possible to set the off delay timing for the motion detectors?
Yes, all the motion detectors have adjustable setting to change the off delay timing to suit wide range of application.
Do the motion detectors lose their settings after power failure?
No, all the motion detectors retain all of the setting after power failure or any interruption in the power line.
What is the recommended installation height of a motion detector?
Recommended installation height for ceiling mount motion detectors is 2.5 to 3.5 meters, except for high bay motion detector HF HB1360 which can be installed at the height of 4 to 10 meters. Wall mount motion detectors are designed for installation at the height of 1.5 to 3.5 meters. Motion detector not installed at this recommended height might not be able to watch over the intended area with satisfactory results.
Can the load be manually turned on by overriding the motion detector so that the load stays ‘ON’ all the time?
Yes. This is possible by providing a parallel switch for the power supply lead to the load. By this switch the motion detector operation can be bypassed.
Can the motion detectors be connected in parallel?
Yes, all the motion detectors except HF DIM1360 can be connected in parallel.
How much is the self power consumption of motion detector?
Motion detector consumes approx 0.45 watt during standby and approx 0.9 watt when the load turns on.
Does the walking direction make any difference for effectiveness of motion detector’s ability to detect the movement?
Yes. Depending on the technology, walking direction is important in respect to the location of the motion detector. Please refer the motion detector technology overview page for more detail information.
Do the motion detectors also detect the moving objects like tree branches or window curtains?
Motion detectors detect the movement in the detection area. These may be from people or animal or even from tree branches or window curtains moved by strong wind. Hence deciding the place for installing the motion detectors should be chosen properly to avoid such false motion detection
Does the operation of a motion detector dependent on ambient temperature?
HF motion detector performs equally over wide range of ambient temperature. PIR motion detector detects the change in temperature. Hence the ambient temperature plays important role in working of this motion detector. Maximum detection reach distance mentioned for all the PIR motion detectors is measured at the ambient temperature of 25⁰C. Detection reach distance might decrease at higher ambient temperature.
